Since 2000 Malvern Panalytical has been an industrial partner of the Medipix collaboration. The aim for Malern Panalytical was to integrate Medipix detectors in their X-ray diffraction equipment to increase performance and open up new markets. A first milestone was reached in 2007 when a product based on the Medipix2 chip, PIXcel, was released. A detector with larger area, 4 Medipix2 chips in a 2*2 configuration, was introduced in 2011. The PIXcel3D is a unique 2D solid-state hybrid pixel detector. This detector, based on Medipix3 technology and introduced 2014, brings unrivalled signal to noise with its point spread function of one pixel and multiple energy discrimination levels.
